SDGs in the City: Pracsis organises UN side event in New York for European Commission

Pracsis was in New York City in July to organise a side event for the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development on behalf of DG DEVCO of the European Commission. The event was part of the EU Switch to Green facility which assists EU foreign delegations and other Commission services advance green economic development around the world.

Big turnout in Bucharest for EU conference on financing energy efficiency

On 1 February, PRACSIS organised its seventh public event for Sustainable Energy Investment Forums, the European Commission programme that aims to boost financing for energy efficiency in EU member states.

PRACSIS was responsible for all practical organisation and logistics, PR, and press relations for the event, which gathered Romanian, Bulgarian and Hungarian project developers, public authorities, banks, and other players from the finance sector interested in energy efficiency investment.

PRACSIS promotes financing for energy efficiency in Ireland

On 28 September, PRACSIS organized its fourth public event for Sustainable Energy Investment Forums, the European Commission programme that aims to boost financing for energy efficiency in EU member states.

The event took place in Dublin at the Clontarf Castle Hotel and was organized for the European Commission in partnership with the UN Environment Finance Initiative, the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, the UK’s Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, and Ireland’s Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment.

EU Green Week 29 May to 2 June 2017

Green Week is Europe’s largest series of events on environment policy. The 2017 edition took place from 29 May to 2 June with the theme of ‘Green jobs for a greener future’. It focused on how EU environmental policies are creating green jobs and contributing to economic, sustainable and socially responsible growth in the EU. It also highlighted the demand for new types of green skills in many professional sectors.

Organised by PRACSIS in support of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Environment, this annual key event in the environment policy calendar attracts policymakers, leading environmentalists, stakeholders and other interested parties from across Europe and the globe.

This year, as many as 800 stakeholders gathered in Brussels to discuss a wide variety of environmental initiatives such as the LIFE project, the Ecolabel 25th anniversary, the maritime and oceanic sector. High-level speakers – including Karmenu Vella, Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs & Fisheries, Daniel Calleja Crespo, Director General DG Environment and Yvon Slingenberg, Director DG Climate Action – engaged with the audience on different topics.

Winner takes all

27342870463_4c1593bb76_z-300x212The summer of 2016 marked the 9th ceremony of the European Green Capital Award, Europe’s prize for cities leading in sustainable urban planning. Joanna Drake, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s DG Environment, handed over awards to the cities of Nijmegen (the Netherlands) and Galway (Ireland) for their accomplishments in becoming sustainable.

For PRACSIS, the ceremony was the grand finale of the competition cycle, which it ran as the European Green Capital’s secretariat. In this role PRACSIS managed the application procedure, organised three assessment rounds involving an expert panel of 12, and ultimately the jury meeting on the evening before the ceremony.

October 2016 Eco-innovation forum Tallinn is coming up “Financing Eco-innovations”

But also involving businesses that have already succeeded in attracting investment for their Eco-innovation projects or are planning to do so in the future.

The objective is to explore in an interactive way how investors and businesses in this area could work better together, so that promising innovative products, services and processes that protect the environment become fully-fledged commercial prospects, ready for use by business and industry.

UNECE Reactive Nitrogen workshop

challengesand-opportunities-for-nitrogen-emission-reduction-strategies-mark-sutton-2-638On 11 and 12 October 2016 in Brussels, the European Commission’s Directorate General Environment and the UNECE’s Task Force on Reactive Nitrogen jointly organised the workshop “Towards joined-up nitrogen guidance for air, water and climate co-benefits”.

PRACSIS was in charge of the A-Z organisation of all events activities, such as registration management of 100 participants, coordination of 20 speakers and key players and on site logistics.

The aim of the event  was to ensure an interactive exchange about the conference topic amongst the audience in order to prepare  guidance documents for best practices concerning Nitrogen management.

Switch to Green: Annual Coordination Meeting

Organised by PRACSIS, a meeting convened by the Switch to Green Flagship Initiative on 26-27 September in Brussels aimed at building bridges between practitioners from EU-funded inclusive green economy actions and across different development programmes, with a view to enhancing visibility and improving coordination of those involved.

Participants welcomed the Switch to Green Flagship Initiative as timely, in view of the increased importance of mainstreaming inclusive green economy (ICE) and, particularly, sustainable consumption and production (SCP) practices, mandated by the recently adopted Sustainable Development Goals.

Launched by the European Commission Directorate General for International Cooperation and Development (DG DEVCO), SWITCH to Green is a Flagship Initiative linking complementary programmes to improve the overall coherence, coordination and visibility of existing and future EU-funded international cooperation initiatives on green economy.
