Moving into the right direction

Tonight, 23 March, Brussels hosts the European Mobility Week (EMW) Awards Ceremony. The European Commission’s Directorate General for Climate Action will reward the local authority that is deemed to have done most to raise public awareness of sustainable mobility issues and move towards sustainable urban transport.

The cities of Murcia (Spain), Östersund (Sweden) and Vienna (Austria) are the finalists of the 2014 edition of the EMW Award. They have been shortlisted amongst 38 applications from cities located in 16 different countries.

PRACSIS events department is taking care of all the organisational aspects of the working sessions and the ceremony, managing the registration process, ensuring the optimum functioning of all technical equipment and providing delicious catering at a cocktail reception in the evening for 150 people.

Transport contributes about one-fifth of the EU’s total emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) and urban mobility accounts for 40% of all CO2 emissions of road transport, according to the European Commission. Taking action in European cities to reduce transport pollution is therefore crucial to achieve the EU energy and climate objectives and keep leading the global fight against climate change.

Only one winner will take the European Mobility Week (EMW) Award back home. But with their clean transport policies and achievements, all 38 participating cities are definitely showing how to move into the right direction.
